dmesg errors on new install of Jessie

Post by Gord_W »

On making changes I fowled up my old OS and wifi stopped working. Back to square one with a new copy of Jessie

Fresh install updated to V101, rpi B 256K

Running headless, ssh over wifi, no ethernet, no other USB

I don't know if this is normal or indicating some underlying problem.

Hi,

Another thing that I have noticed with this new version is that on command reboot the wireless does not come up all the time after booting. Most of the time the green light on the wifi dongle stays off and I can't reconnect. As I can't connect I don't know if the reboot occurred or not. Lights looked pretty quiet.

The power needs to be cycled to get it to boot again properly.

Hi Gordon,

Possibily due to not enough GPU memory. Try increasing the GPU split.
[ 2.066293] systemd-fstab-generator[50]: Failed to create mount unit file /run/systemd/generator/mnt-usb_1.mount, as it already exists. Duplicate entry in /etc/fstab?
Is fine. You can disable one of the /dev/sda1 entries in fstab to remove the warning.

If problems persist, try running rpi-update to update the kernel/firmware. Also could be power related, try another PSU if possible.

Regarding your wifi:
It may be going into powersave mode. run the following:

Code: Select all

lsusb
Then add the following (Replacing 8192cu with your device) to /etc/modprobe.d/wifi_power.conf :

Code: Select all

options 8192cu rtw_power_mgnt=0

Hi,

I don't think that it is my power supply or card as they haven't been a problem in the past. I'm using it headless so I'm not sure what the GPU is doing. GPU memory was set to be the min during Dietpi setup.

Put a fresh image of Jessie on the card. Edited the dietpi.txt file to allow wireless and wireless settings. Booted and ssh into device and got welcome licence screen. Then an automatic update from V94 to V101. Then did an autoreboot.

Waited a very long time for wifi dongle light to come on. I thought that it hadn't rebooted properly and was going to toggle power, but wifi came on.

RSA fingerprint needed to be reset again. I don't know why after a simple reboot. :(

Came back to welcome licence screen. It decided that it was up-to-date and went to install software. Without selecting anything it would not allow me to exit without going install. Went go install and these programs were installed/updated:

krb5-locales libgssapi-krb5-2 libk5crypto3 libkrb5-3 libkrb5support0 ntp unzip wpasupplicant

automatic reboot

Still waiting for the wifi to come up. It is taking a long time. After 45 minutes giving up. Jessie does not seem reliable enough for me. :(

Going back to Wheezy image.

It may just be kernel warning rather than an error. I Wouldn't go too much into it as it would be the same for the official Raspbian image.

DietPi generates new SSH RSA keys during 1st run.

The only thing I can suggest is try updating the RPi kernel (rpi-update), or, trying another wifi adapter. I've never seen this issue occur.

Dont blame you, appears Jessie + Raspbian still has a few teething issues.
