Potential DNS leaks with dietpi-vpn?

Post by vbarter »

Hey I use dietpi-vpn with a surfshark custom provider configuration using Raspberry Pi 4. I also have a pihole on a separate pi on the network, this pihole can see my network traffic while using the Pi 4 with VPN. I'm afraid that my DNS is leaking on the Pi 4. How can I fix this? How do I access openvpn settings? I really appreciate the easy-to-us dietpi-vpn.

Hi,

maybe a misunderstanding. Just you have activated surfshark, doesn't mean all your clients will use it. You would need to ensure your clients use the surfshark VPN RPi as getaway. As well your PiHole server would need to use the VPN as gateway. Otherwise DNS resolution will bypass your VPN. Means, you would need to check network settings on all devices who should use the VPN.
Pls let us know if a solution is working. This could help others if they hit by similar situation. Your DietPi Team
