Ah yes indeed if an update is done (most images) then dietpi-software is overwritten. We really have to natively add this MOTD patches as an own little feature to be called after update and more transparent as well.

@RedDirtPi
I would install missing software once automated setup finished.
  • NodeRED and Node.js via dietpi-software
  • mosquitto-clients via apt install

Thanks @Joulinar. I know that is the better way to go. I was just really hoping for as much of an automated install as possible. And I understand the complexity of all that DietPi already does, that is no easy feat and takes lots and lots of work. I just really wanted to be able to SSH to the Pi and it be ready to go. No more questions to answer, no more configuration to do, no more software to install.

I had some issues connecting to the repositories last night after trying to tweak the set up a bit more, which caused the DietPi installation to fail, but after that was taken care of everything went really smooth.

By the way, speaking of the issues with the repositories, does adding multiple APT and Debian mirrors to the dietpi.txt file help any or does it just look at one of them. If it only looks at one of them, would it not be better to configure dietpi.txt with multiple mirrors in case the first one it tries is not reachable?

Hi,

the official Raspbian as well as Debian apt repositories are already mirrored by default

https://www.raspbian.org/RaspbianMirrors
https://www.debian.org/mirror/list.en.html

the taget web server will redirect you to one of the available repository server (mirrors).

Regarding the software installation: current issue with node.js installation file is out of DietPi control as the script is maintained by a 3rd party. To overcome the issue, DietPi will switch to it's own install script with next version.

AFAIK http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org is not a mirror director but a dedicated server, hence it will not redirect you. But https://deb.debian.org is one, that is true.
