TL; DR After using macOS, Raspbian Stretch Lite and other OS...Found DietPi and HomePi server a best option
I have been using MacBook Pro for running homebridge with more than 60+ devices.
Then I moved to Raspberry Pi Zero WH (WiFi with headers mounted). Shifted all my home to RPi0W. Worked well but Raspbian Stretch Lite is not that straightforward to work with. Installing and upgrading Raspbian on SD card takes time. Not so easy to wipe and start again. Bluetooth setting up takes inordinate time.
Stumbled across DietPi...oh boy what a delight and relief.
installing takes few minutes
it’s OS is 3 times less in space than Raspbian Stretch Lite
configuration is a breeze through menu driven choices and the command li work is done automatically
I wiped and started new; was ready in two minutes
Run htop...you’ll see how lite on resources it is
Then I found HomePi server...AirPrint, AirPlay and HomeKit on DietPi
If you are looking for easy to use raspberry pi os and smart home setup using homebridge, you will find DietPi a relief and also efficient
