XRDP:
Remote desktop using the Windows Remote Desktop Client.

A desktop must be running before you can connect:
You can use dietpi-autostart and select Desktop, to automatically start a desktop during boot.

Connect to your desktop:
  • Open the remote desktop application in Windows (or any other XRDP compatible client)
  • Enter the IP address of your DietPi device (eg: 192.168.0.100)
  • Click connect and enter the following details once connected:
    • Module = sesman-Xvnc
    • Username = root
    • Password = dietpi

Gogs:
Your very own GitHub style server, with web interface.

Access Gogs web interface:
url = http://192.168.0.100:3000

First run setup:
Once connected to the web interface:
  • Change the following values only:
    • Database password = dietpi
    • Repository Root Path = /mnt/dietpi_userdata/gogs-repo
    • Run User = root
    • Log Path = /var/log
  • Scroll to the bottom of page and select Install Gogs
  • When the web address changes to localhost: and fails to load, you need to reconnect to the webpage using the ip address (eg: http://192.168.0.100:3000)
  • Once the page has reloaded, you will need to click register to create the admin account

External access:
If you wish to allow external access to your Gogs server, you will need to setup port fowarding on your router, pointing to the IP address of your DietPi device.
  • Port = 3000
  • Protocol = TCP+UDP

XFCE Desktop:
Lightweight desktop environment.

Desktop can be run by typing startx.
You can also have DietPi boot directly to the desktop by using dietpi-autostart and selecting Desktop.

qBitTorrent:
qBitTorrent is a lightweight BitTorrent server with a slick web interface. As its coded in C++ (Qt), it offers excellent performance on any device.
- USB dedicated hard drive highly recommended.

Syncthing:
Backup and sync server with web interface. Extremely lightweight and efficient as no webserver is required.

Access web interface:
URL = http://192.168.0.100:8384

First run setup:
Once connected to the web interface.
  • When the Danger! Please set a GUI Authentication User and Password in the Settings dialog. box appears, click the settings button inside the box.
  • Under GUI Authentication User and GUI Authentication Password. Enter new login details you would like to use for access to the web interface. Then click save
DietPi will automatically setup your default folder share to /mnt/dietpi_userdata.

Setup a second system to sync with:
In this example we will use a Windows system. The goal is to "sync" the user data from your DietPi device with another system.
  • Download, extract and run the Windows application synthing.exe: https://syncthing.net/ (located under Get Started)
  • Syncthing web interface will load automatically, if not, you can access it via http://127.0.0.1:8384/
    • Click Actions at the top right, then select Show ID. Copy the UUID code.
  • On the DietPi device, open the web interface and click Add remote device (bottom right)
    • Under Device ID, paste in the UUID we copied earlier.
    • Under Device name, enter any name. eg: My Windows PC.
    • Under Share Folders With Device tick/select DietPi user data, then click save.
  • After a few seconds, go back to the Windows web interface http://127.0.0.1:8384/. You should receive a message asking you to confirm the new device, click Add Device.
    • Under Share Folders With Device tick/select DietPi user data, then click save
You devices should now duplicate the user data from your DietPi device to your Windows PC.

vsFTPD - FTP Server Details:
Very secure FTP file server with feature rich security options.

Accessing vsFTPD with Windows:
- Goto My Computer (Windows Explorer).
- In the address bar at the top type ftp://root:dietpi@192.168.0.100 press enter.
NB: Change 192.168.0.100 to the IP address of your DietPi system.

Accessing vsFTPD with a FTP Client:
username = root
password = The same as your root login password. Default is dietpi
address = Your ip address (eg: 192.168.0.100)
port = 21

NFS - Network File System Server:
Network file system server.

Accessing NFS Share:
Address = Ip address of your DietPi system (eg: 192.168.0.100)
Port = 2049

Increase security:
By default NFS will allow anyone to connect. You can limit who can access the NFS share by setting a IP address range:
  • Edit the following file /etc/exports
  • To only allow users access with an IP address range of 192.168.0.1-255
    Code: Select all
    /mnt/dietpi_userdata 192.168.0.*(rw,async,no_root_squash,fsid=0,crossmnt,no_subtree_check)
  • Restart services dietpi-services restart

DXX-Rebirth:
Descent 1 & 2. A masterpiece 3D FPS. Brought back to life with the DXX-Rebirth project. Play Descent as true to the original with OpenGL/ES rendering.
  • DietPi will install the Demo and Shareware versions of Descent. Please see the FAQ below to transfer the full game.
  • Keyboard + Mouse is highly recommended
  • We have compiled the latest version of DXX-Rebirth (0.58.1) with support for FB and RPi OpenGL.

Starting DXX-Rebirth
  • DXX-Rebirth can be started by running dxx-rebirth
  • Auto start option is available. Simply run dietpi-autostart and select DXX-Rebith (Descent 1/2) then reboot your system.

Choosing a Pilot
We have created a Pilot called DietPi. The config has been setup for WSAD style play and is recommended for FPS players who use WSAD + Mouse.
  • WSAD = Forward/Backwards/left/right
  • QZ = Up/down
  • ER = Rotate Z (forward) axis
  • F = Launch flare
  • ALT+F2 = Save game



FAQ:
  • How do I transfer the original Descent full game files?
    • Before you begin, you will need the original game files, from a legal copy and installation of Descent.
      Make sure you have one of DietPi's File Servers installed.
    • Copy your Descent 1 Game files to /mnt/dietpi_userdata/dxx-rebirth/descent_1_game
    • Copy your Descent 2 Game files to /mnt/dietpi_userdata/dxx-rebirth/descent_2_game
