DietPi with Allo for RPI 5

Hi, Apparently the Allo GUI DietPi image from 2017 (which is the only one I can find anywhere) does not run on Raspberry Pi 5. I found the RPi 5 DietPi image but as expected it did n ot have the Allo GUI - at least not activated. Can anyone help me a) find an in page or b) understand how to install the Allo GUI on top of the dietpi install I have? I expect I am nto the only one trying to do this. TIA. justme

Did you tried to install via DietPi Software? Can you check availibility?

dietpi-software list | grep Allo

First, thanks for the reply. All I really know how to do with these SBC OSes is install the image. And the Allo image has been what more or less everyone used. So I have no idea how to even begin to go about that. Boot it up and log in remotely and perform some magic? I dont even know where to begin. Can you step me through it?

My presumption was that I was not the first and an image or updater exists somewhere. Else my best path may be to return the RPi 5 and get a 4.

Thank you for this, I’ll read and see what I can follow.

I also need to learn to use this editor… I actually replied with a long paragraph explaining what I was looking for and what I knew (or dont). That never posted - just the one line. Hmmmmm

very strange – this appears in the thread yet you saw a partial early version (not even everything I typed then!). Wither I have no idea how to use this editor or something is not quite right … ah well

Ok, I scanned this. It will be a very helpful resource in a general way, but a search on all topics does not reveal the Allo GUI and add on package as an item. So apparently this wont do the trick - at least not yet.

So for clarity I’m looking for β€œbeen there done that” to simply install the entire Audio package of add ons and the Allo configuration GUI that accompanies them. Specifically (for now) to use Roon and Airplay to steam to this and pass on, with interpolation and HD to a remote DAC via USB.

I do see that Roon bridge is on the list.

But even if I could figure all this out I am building for someone who knows nothing- nada - about computers and I can’t give hm anything less than a GUi that I can preconfigure and provide the key parameters in the event they change…So absent a full Allo install or image io may need to punt back to a RPI 4.

Shame there must be 100s if not 1000s in the same situation, or who will be soon as RPI5s become more common.

TY

I don’t know what the problem is to open dietpi-softwareand to search + install Allo

Aside from β€œI dont really know how to do it - I am not experienced with these sorts of things” - I searched on Allo, and did not see such an add on package available? Can you point me to it?

It is not sin this link:

( a click through from what you sent)

But beyond this - dont assume everyone understand or has done what you have. I just use this as an appliance.

I should also add that the page you point me to seems to show a screen with a terminal connected directly? I am not sure. I dont have a terminal or keyboard that can plug into this and have never need to do so - I simply use the Pi as a remote, headless server and access it via the GUI from a web browser (which is part of what Allo provided). I can probably figure out how to login or ssh to it with explicit instructions - just keep in mind that I something like that about once a year so nothing is simple to me.

Yes login with SSH and install Allo using dietpi-software

Thank you. Where do I find the syntax for the diet-software command? Or is it interactive? And where do I find the name of the package (liek I said, the list I found did not show it). TIA again.

Its an interactive tool, simply open it and use the search function

Agin the recommendation to have a look into our online documentation Software Installation - DietPi.com Docs

And to check availability of Allo

Yes, I plan to curl up and read that documentation. I( will grep it, btu a search (in browser window) did not show it. I am not clear - do you KNOW that it exists to be installed? I’d be somewhat surprised that its that simple since Allo was a commercial company that went bust.

So this has both been very helpful (and encouraging) and confusing. I ssh’d in and was greeted (to my surprise) by a sort of rudimentary text based GUI. Yea! I managed to find the software list and found Allo (double yea!). But after selecting it it was unclear how to proceed. I went to install and saw options that did not exist on the screen. When I skipped past to β€œinstall” (after selecting β€œAllo with dependencies”) I was greeted by this:

DietPi was unable to detect any additional software selections for install. β”‚

I have no idea why or how to proceed. It seems contradictory to me.

You need to select the option you like to install by hitting space bar. This should set an X in front of it. Go back to main screen and choose install

Yes, should be software id 159 or 160

root@DietPiProd:~# dietpi-software list | grep Allo
ID 159 | =0 | Allo GUI full: Audiophile web interface with all dependencies | +Squeezelite +Shairport Sync +Netdata +MariaDB +PHP +Samba Server +NAA daemon +MPD +O!MPD +Avahi-Daemon +Allo GUI +GMediaRender +webserver +Roon Bridge | https://dietpi.com/forum/t/dietpi-allo-com-web-gui-image/1523
ID 160 | =0 | Allo GUI: Audiophile web interface without dependencies |
root@DietPiProd:~#

Yes. Hmm Spacebar or TAB, in any event, the cursor jumped and selected the software. The I had to select confirm - but when I did that, it unselected Allo…

Oops, no I have to use the tab for most things but the spacebar to select. That did it! One more thing: do I need to install the various programs that Allo control or are they all part of the package (Shairpoint server, Roon bridge, CPU info, some others…). TIA as always

Go with id 159, this should be full set of software options you are looking for
