Transferring dietpi to new/different hardware?

Thinking about going from Odroid N2 to x86 hardware to have some more robust power driving the server.

I now have dietpi setup as I want it and don’t really want to do it all over again.

Some questions:

  1. Is it possible to do this preserving the current setup?

  2. Is there any reason to not use a VM? I am leaning towards ubuntu and have dietpi running in a vm so that the
machine can also be used for other things.

Thanks

Hi,

there is no real way to change from one architecture to another. Simply all software packages are compiled for different platforms. That’s why you are not able to simple backup/restore the system. Only way is to manually save your configs and copy them over.

You can use a VM as well, this is totally fine.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Hi
And if i move from a x86 computer to an other x86, does it work ?
Thank you.
