Setup Pi Zero 2W without a screen?

I won a Pi Zero 2W so I thought I’d use it with DietPi and set up PiHole. All my other Pi’s have been fine to set up because I can connect them to a screen, the issue is I don’t have a mini hdmi cable or converter to use with the pi Zero.

I’ve installed dietpi and connected it to my router using a usb to ethernet dongle, I can see the dongle is flashing so I’m assuming there’s a connection.

I’ve looked at the list of connected devices from my routers page and tried ssh root@ for all the ipv4 and ssh root@[] for all the ipv6 devices but none of them connect.

Before I order a mini hdmi to hdmi converter is there a script or something I can add to the boot section of the sd card that will print out the ip address or give me some info as to what’s happening?

Thanks for any help!

You could setup a manual network config which will be applied on the very first boot, so you would need to re-flash, change dietpi.txt and boot the device.
