Samba server instructions

I’m wondering about the “samba” user, also the “smbpasswd -a samba” string to change the password.

It seem that Samba server SMB is the same as Debian, just DietPi will add automatically the user “dietpi” to the Samba users.

Also I don’t see the point of the group “sambashare", in the instructions too.

DietPi will add automatically the user “dietpi” to the Samba users.

nope, this was changed in May 2025 as we are moving away from user dietpi in general. For samba we switched on new installations to a new user called samba Update Samba Server default login · MichaIng/DietPi-Docs@e61fd0b · GitHub

Ok, then now everything is clear, also for the “smbpasswd -a samba” string that change the SMB password of the user that I didn’t have.

I’ll try everything on a new installation.

I think that won’t affect old installations, even updated to Trixie, until I will reinstall the Samba server.
