PiMox running on DietPi for Home Assistant? [HA Core deprecated]

Hi everyone. As some of you likely already know, Home Assistant Core will be deprecated in August, 2025. Unfortunately, support for Home Assistant Supervised will also be dropped. This leaves DietPi users with two options:

  1. Running Home Assistant in a Docker container
  2. Running Home Assistant OS in PiMox

For various reasons, I’m leaning towards the latter, i.e. running HAOS in PiMox on a Raspberry Pi 4 with 8 GB of RAM. Is this at all possible? Rephrased - is it doable to run PiMox using DietPi in 2025? Old forum threads seem to suggest that it’s somewhat problematic, but then again those threads are old and may not reflect how things are today.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance! :+1:

Sorry, but that doesn’t really answer my question. Even if Home Assistant Core can still be used, it’ll be with caveats - which is why I’d like to explore running PiMox on DietPi on a Raspberry Pi 4 8 GB.

For that reason, anyone who has any advice to give is most welcome to post a reply in this thread. Thank you.

you are free to install whatever you like on DietPi. We don’t have a guide for this nor has it been tested by us.

Anyway, I was able to do a dirty install of Install Proxmox VE on Debian bookworm · jiangcuo/pxvirt Wiki · GitHub on a RPi5. Did not test running a VM.

Restrictions might be still same as the one described on Pimox - #5 by Joulinar

Thank you very much for all of your hassle - very much appreciated! :+1: I’ll look into installing Home Assistant OS on Proxmox on Dietpi on Raspberry Pi 4, and update this thread with my findings.
