Never been able to SSH on install

When I say “nothing” I meant I get to here the screen says ‘hit enter’ and nothing happens. I can hit it 10,000 times and not a thing would happe.
Here is the image.

you need to type the user/password. Typing the user name will be visible, but password is hidden.

I just tried it both ways. The screen says 'hit enter to login" i did that and the screen stays the same. I rebooted and entered name and password
the same thing the screen propmt just stays there. So something strange is going on.

while typing the user name, you should see something. Do you? If not, the keyboard is not working or at least nothing is reaching the RPi.

Yes I see nothing. It is and brand new keyboard just the other day I recieved. It works on my PC. Oh well. Thanks for all your help I think this is just a lost cause.

does the same keyboard is working if you have RPi OS installed on the same device? I mean in the very same setup, just RPi OS instead of DietPi? At the end DietPi is nothing else than a slim/diet version of RPI OS with a reduced amount of packages and some more config scripts.

MichaIng
Any ideas?

No it does not. I have never needed it because I can use wifi to do a healdess install with Raspian.

ok at least this explains the keyboard not working. But to bad that we are not able to have a look to the system to check why WiFi is failing. This would be interesting to see what the issue is.

I have no idea how I could do that. I really appreciate all you time though.

Is it possible to setup Dietpi onto my old Raspberry Pi Model B then copy that setup into a windows fold and recopying to the microsd card for the Pi Zero. I have no idea if that would work just askin.

No, copying this stuff to windows would break some stuff.

The way would be to flash Raspi OS to the SD card and use a keyboard that works with the Rasperry Pi. I can really understand if this is too much for you, (flash again and get another keyboard) just for the purpose to investigate the weird behaviour with the wifi

BTW what kind of keyboard is that, something special or something very cheap? It’s very uncommon for such a generic USB device to not work out of the box.

btw: can you share your dietpi.txt as well pls?

The dietpy.txt is here http://pastie.org/p/1tUCMHkcKCq7b1a7QJvaTD

Yes it is a cheap keyboard and mouse I picked up on Amazon renewed for like $10 US. It is a Verbatrim
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RRV3R8L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

we are sitting together with some people to brainstorm on your issue. Can you share as well config.txt pls?

Btw, did you tried to change PSU and/or USB cable? Or do you have another adapter to connect the keyboard? Where did you connect the keyboard to? Can you do a picture?

Here is the config.txt http://pastie.org/p/7KpfdVEn5mw4PP7t6kw5Jp I have never changed anything on it.

Here is the image pf the Pi

Upper left is the Keyboard Connection
Lower left is the HDMI
Upper right is an USB to Ethernet. My onboard ethernet on the zero housing broke. That was fairly recent though.
Lower Right power.

I know the usb to ethernet works as I have been using it fine. Plus like like I stated that was a week or two ago and I never could get dietpi working.

Probably power supply isn’t sufficient for that HAT and all devices. Do you have a micro USB to USB adapter so that you are able to boot it without the HAT (and WiFi) and see whether the keyboard works then?

Also to reduce power consumption during boot, please try to edit config.txt and set:

initial_turbo=0
arm_freq=800

One indicator for insufficient voltage is a rainbow coloured square during boot on the screen, probably you see one? AFAIK it is a smaller one at the top right of the screen, not the full screen square.

looking to this picture https://www.welectron.com/media/image/product/11009/lg/waveshare-16595-eth-usb-hub-hat~2.jpg
there should be a connector between pi zero and hat. Could that be? That might be the reason why your keyboard is not working.

The ethernet hat never came with a connector and I do not have one. I am a noob and just assumed everything happened between the 40 pin connector.

to be able to use USB ports on the hat, you would need to have the connector. And usually it should be part of the waveshare kit. Basically you could remove the hat

Did you tried to do the setting changes indicated by MichaIng ?

Not yet I have to leave for work and will not be able to try anything until the AM. EST.
Sorry, and thanks for all the help. I will try all this when I get up first thing
