I tried installing guest additions, but it tells me “dnf” not found when I try to install them from CD.
is there a way to make copy and paste work? would be so much more convenient.

Maybe it is not possibel to copy & paste between a Linux guest that has no graphical interface. Probably something to check with VirtualBox.
As an alternative you could simply use SSH to connect 
SSH did the trick. putty FTW!
