Hello,
I’m new here and my knowledge of Raspberry Pi is rather minimal.
I understand a lot, but not always everything.
My biggest success is installing Dietpi on a discarded PC, which I am delighted to use for my audio applications for Roon.
Since then, I’ve been hooked on Dietpi and am interested in learning more over time.
I should have done my research beforehand, but I need a little nudge.
Now the damage is done, I have ordered a UStar C19 based on a CM4 module for my audio applications.
Here are my questions:
- Can I install Dietpi on the Ustar C19 ?
- If so, since there are no visual interfaces to connect a monitor.
How do I install the operating system on it?
I mentioned a PC in passing.
Here is some more information about the C19.
I’m not sure if anyone can answer this question, as probably no one has ever tried anything like this. Theoretically you can test if one of the existing RPI images will boot.

Hello,
thanks for your feedback.
Yes, I was thinking something like that.
I can try and see if it works.
I just need to know which image to choose?
The one for the RPI 4?
I had a look there but it didn’t say whether it was CM4 compatible.
I didn’t find a CM compatible image on the website either.
we don’t have a dedicated image for the RPi CM4
At least for some people it seems to work using one of the existing images Raspberry CM4 USB doesn't work
Hmm, I see.
I can give it a try, but I guess it won’t work.
I would probably have to create the image under Windows 10 and install it on the SD card and have installed all programs on it beforehand so that it might work.
Does Vmware work with it to test it virtually?
On the discarded Pc Dietpi worked after 2-3 attempts at the first attempt.
The dealer said that you can install Dietpi on the C19 if you connect it to the PC via USB.
Alternatively, Gentooplayer would work if Dietpi doesn’t work.
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
nope, different chip architectures. VM would be x86 while your CM might be arch64
Okay, thanks again.
I don’t have an RPI where I could normally flash and install the whole thing.
Is there anything for Windows that runs under the architecture where arch64?
Simply flash the image to SD card using tools like Rufus
Hello,
I’m revisiting this post because I’m about to receive the Ustars C19.
So, do you know if installing Dietpi on the C19’s CM4 makes the C19 fully operational (instead of Ropieee, which is installed by default)?
If so, are all the ports functional (I2S, AES, Coax)?
Hello,
I have a C19B under diretta Target + Diretta and UPnP Render on the host, I works well under USB but I can’t make it work under AES, does someone has a solution to make AES functional without using RopieeeXL ?
