Using DietPi on an external cloud host

Hi

I’ve been using Dietpi on my home server and it’s a great experience. I have some limited linux/debian experience and DietPi has made running a server so much easier.

For a work project (non-critical), I need to set up an hosted/cloud server. For example on hetzner. I’m assuming I would be able to install debian OS.

My question is, would I be able to install DietPi on the cloud server, and use it in a similar way as I do on my homeserver. I’m aware I’d need to sort out security, SSL etc.

Thanks for any advice.

Theoretically this might be possible. Depends a little bit on your VPS provider. We have a couple of user who succeed on this.

@HolgerTB do you use DietPi + Hetzner?

If you send them direct link to iso. Here is theirs FAQ https://docs.hetzner.com/cloud/servers/faq#how-can-i-get-a-custom-iso

I have multiple Instances of DietPi running in the Hetzner Cloud. I am running them since several years without any issues. I also made a Template for faster deploy. I made a how-to on my blog.

Many thanks for posting :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ll try it out!

Very cool!!! Thanks for the link!
I guess it can also be built as a VM on PROXMOX…or use the native installer…
More options = more flexibility…awesome!
