Is it weird that I find it cool to have had an impact on the source code for DietPi?

Not at all. I find it cool as well when I have a positive impact on other open source projects, best of course when they are managed on platforms where I can offer pull/merge requests to appear in the commit history as contributor directly 
. Since such is not possible without having an actual code commit merged, we mention everyone in the changelog/release notes, who pointed us to a bug or requested something that was implemented, to give proper credits to all kind of community efforts and contributions which are so important
