Try to install my Brother HL-3140CW led printer with CUPS

Dear reader,

I tried to get my Brother HL-3140CW led printer working on my Raspberry-PI4, but until now without success.

  1. Installed CUPS on Dietpi during installation with “sudo dietpi-software install 29 105 113 187”
  2. Found “brother_hl3140cw_printer_en.ppd” file on the internet
  3. Installed the printer with CUPS. Cups reported the printer was added successfully.
  4. Printed test page, but no output.
  5. Because ppd-files are not longer supported I decided to install the printer with the IPP option. The printer started to print
continuously (no text was printed) so I had to switch the printer off.
  6. I decided to delete the printer and to start from scratch with the ppd option and to document the installation process.
7 The ppd installation log file

    Installation Brother HL-3140CW on Dietpi(2)
is as pdf included in this troubleshoot report.

Many thanks in advance for your support,
Regards wimduk

Extra details

Had a similar problem with a Brother HL-L2360D; solution was a deb file from Brother to install the Printer. Maybe a solution for your Brother https://support.brother.com/g/b/branch/downloadlist.aspx?c=de&lang=de&prod=hl3140cw_us_eu&os=128&flang=English#SelectLanguageType-625_0_1

Thank you very much for your reply, I’ll will try it asap and let you know the results.

Good morning dietgerhard,

First of all I have to apologize for my late response.
For personal reasons I was offline for a longer period.

For what my Brother printer is concerned, the following:
I followed your link and came at the Brother webpage and downloaded the deb-files . These deb-file have the i386 architecture and are not usable for my Raspberry because the Raspberry has the ARM architecture. I tried the linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.4-1.gz file but during installation I saw that the script is also downloading and processing the i386 deb-files. So in the end it did not work.

I will do a fresh Dietpi install and then follow this procedure : https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/printing-at-home-from-your-raspberry-pi/
If it works I will let you know

But many thanks for your support.
