Start VLC video player after boot

Hi,

I’m trying to run VLC with dietpi on a Odroid C4 to show a rtsp stream from a local security camera.

Before I got it working running Ubuntu and running a bash script in Auto start. I faced the problem that the sd cards died quickly ( in a few months). I found a tutorial on this forum to install dietpi on the odroid and boot it from a usb stick instead of sd card. This is working so far.

Now i try to get VLC running on start which is not working. I’m using LXDE as desktop interface.

I’ve tried to add the bash script to the auto start of dietpi. I read that the autostart is running from root which gives problems to VLC which doesn’t run in root.

It’s not a requirement to use VLC. I’ve tried mpv, but it activated sleep mode in Ubuntu and i wasn’t able to disable that.

I guess you need to autostart the desktop and create an autostart item within the LXDE desktop themselves.

Using DietPi autostart bash script might be wrong way.

Thank you for the reply will try this out.
