Slow access to /mnt folder

Hello, I noticed it took about one minute to enter /mnt folder in Kodi and Emby that I have installed on my Dietpi (Raspberry Pi4). In that folder I have mounted my external HDD and my dietpi_userdata. I have also folder from two others usb HDD’s but they are now unmounted. I have also entries in fstab about that 3 HDD drives. What may be the reason it took so long to show /mnt folder?
Regards Przemko

Hi,

  1. do you use your 3 external HDD with external power supplies or does they are powered by the RPi only?
  2. do you have the slowness always using kodi or just first time entering the directory /mnt?
  3. do you know if you HDD in some kind of hibernate status and need to wake-up first?
  4. do you see the same slowness if you try to access /mnt on OS layer directly?
  5. pls can you have a look to dmesg if see some error messages regarding your USB HDD’s or some under-voltage messages?
  6. maybe you can do same on journalctl if there is something related

Hi, thanks for fast reply.

do you use your 3 external HDD with external power supplies or does they are powered by the RPi only?

  1. I have only one HDD with power supply connected now. Those other two was connected only at the beggining but when I mount them dietpi make automaticly fstab entry. Do I have to delete this and folders? May be that will help?

do you have the slowness always using kodi or just first time entering the directory /mnt?

  1. Every time when I try to add new source on Kodi or Emby, also when I go to that /mnt folder from my Android App RaspiControl. I have link in kodi File Manager to dietpi_userdata or other media folders on my HDD [/mnt/Toshiba/dietpi_userdata] and I can visit them very quick.

o you know if you HDD in some kind of hibernate status and need to wake-up first?

  1. I don’t think so because as I write above I can enter that drive very quick with shortcuts on kodi File Manager or my media Library. My media start very quick on Kodi or Emby.

do you see the same slowness if you try to access /mnt on OS layer directly?

  1. I can enter /mnt folder very quick from ssh from my laptop.

pls can you have a look to dmesg if see some error messages regarding your USB HDD’s or some under-voltage messages?

  1. Sorry for that but I don’t see any errors:

maybe you can do same on journalctl if there is something related

  1. I’m very sorry but I don’t know what and how to search in journalctl. Can You help me?
    Regards Przemko

so it’s not a general issue accessing /mnt folder. Looks more related to Kodí. Anyway you should clean your /etc/fstab if you don’t use the entries of these 2 HDD anymore.

Thanks, I delete those old entries on /etc/fstab and now it’s OK.
