Shairport and RAOP/Pulse

I got all excited that Shairport meant I could use Spotify on my ubuntu laptop and stream the output from it to my Pi (plugged in to my HiFi) But I’m having no joy. Shairport seems to install ok and I can see it as a sink in the audio settings on my laptop, but when ever I select it as an output whatever player I’m using (Spotify or Clementine) just stops…

I know this is a bit OT from a strictly DP question, but has anyone got Shairport working with a connection from a linux machine - does it only respond to RAOP2? (which looks to be something of a pain to set up)

You know when you’re shopping on Amazon and see those question replies with “I dont know”, this is one of those lol

It does sound like config/setting issue on the Ubuntu client. It may also be worth checking current Git issues on shairport-sync: GitHub - mikebrady/shairport-sync: AirPlay and AirPlay 2 audio player for similar reports.

edit: Have you tried ALSA + loopback? Confounded Technology: Building & installing the ALSA loopback device under Ubuntu

I required the ALSA Loopback device to re-route sound from one application to another when streaming Airplay to a Logitech Squeezebox see here. Read on to see how I installed the ALSA loopback on Ubuntu 10.04.

I figured it was a bit of a long shot! Thanks for the pointers though.

I’ll keep tinkering away and will post back if I make any breakthroughs.
