Setup Diet-Pi as a PC router + Nextcloud AIO

This topic seems to be duplicated with some previously created topics. However, since I am a newbie to Linux and not specialized in information technology, the scattered topics either have goals different from mine or have not been fully answered.
Therefore, I’d like to present my intentions in hopes of receiving as detailed guidance as possible.
Firstly, here is the system setup I plan to implement:

  1. The core of the system will be an old PC (Dietpi-PC) (H81 mainboard, Pentium corei3, 4 GB Ram) on which I’ll install Dietpi and Nextcloud AIO for external access.
  2. The Dietpi-PC will also function as a router, using PPPoE to connect to the ISP’s router (in bridge mode).
  3. The Dietpi-PC will have Adguard, Wireguard, etc., installed, serving as a downlink to another wireless AP for client devices to connect to the internet.

The Dietpi-PC has one onboard 1-gigabit Ethernet interface, and I’ve added another 1-gigabit Ethernet port via a PCIe x1 slot (with an RTL8111C chip). After testing, I found the PCIe Ethernet port connects to the internet without any additional configuration.

My first question is:
How can I configure the Dietpi-PC to use PPPoE on the onboard Ethernet port (let’s call it Ether 0) and function as a router for the wireless AP through the PCIe Ethernet port (let’s call it Ether 1), so that client devices can connect to the internet?

I would greatly appreciate any assistance.
Best regards

there is no WAN router or modem? The PC should connect directly to internet?

I’m sorry if my explanation was unclear.

I have an ISP modem, which currently acts as the wireless router for my home. Now, I want to install Nextcloud AIO on the Dietpi-PC (which is the main goal) and also use this dietpi-pc as a VPN host, with Adguard for LAN clients. This is to minimize the need to purchase additional devices, such as another router.

To be honest, my network knowledge is really limited, so I would also appreciate any alternative suggestions that might be more suitable for my plan

this is possible without any configuration needed. Simply connect your PC to your modem/router, install all software and you are done.

Please correct me if I am wrong. So, what you suggested is like this diagram?

In this case, I am quite confused: how other devices access internet via dietpi-pc?

why should other clients access internet via the PC? And why do you have AGH + PiHole on the same device? This will not work as both will block same port 53 (DNS).

Oops, as I mentioned, my network knowledge is quite limited; I just want to block ads for the entire household network. So perhaps I’ll skip Pi-hole and install AdGuard Home instead.

Other than that, is there anything else I should consider?

As I explained, the purpose of installing additional software on the Dietpi-PC is to filter ads and manage bandwidth similar to OpenWRT

this can be done ootb

what do you mean with this?

If you mean “install”, so sure it can be done. However, I don’t know how dietpi-pc can block ads for the entire house. For example, I have computers and phones accessing internet via a wireless AP. How does dietpi-pc work, in case of the 2nd diagram?

I supposed that is one of the main functions of a router in which openwrt is installed, isn’t it? Anyway, does that really matter?

I don’t see the point why you would do something like this. For using AGH this is not needed at all.

You would need to set your AGH device as DNS within your DHCP server settings. Usually done on the router.

Thank you very much!
Since I am a total noob in this, there are many things I didn’t quite understand throughly, especially their function, application. etc. However I am so eager to find a perfect solution ^^.
I will spend more time to learn all these things, step by step, and maybe back for another question ^^.
Anyway, I really appreciation your time and prompt reply.
Best regards!
