rPi3 /w Pi LCD LXDE won't run unless sudo

Fresh install of Dietpi 6.32.2 x64
I installed LXDE from dietpi-software
If I set autostart to Automatic Login (2) and select my dietpi user I get an error to the effect of permission denied.
If I set autostart to LightDM login mask (16) I get a login screen and can log in using my dietpi user just fine.
If I set autostart to Automatic Login (2) and select root user, it auto logs in fine.
If I set autostart to console and log in with my dietpi user, then type startx I get “(EE) xf86OpenConsole: Cannot open virtual console 2 (Permission denied)”
If I then type sudo startx lxde starts fine.

How can I get my dietpi user to be allowed to autologin?

Hi,

many thanks for your message. Yes that’s correct, currently user root is allowed to start xsessions only. We are aware on this difficulty. Maybe you like to have a look into a similar GitHub entry. https://github.com/MichaIng/DietPi/issues/3586

There we discussed as well a possible workaround https://github.com/MichaIng/DietPi/issues/3586#issuecomment-647186230

Thanks for the reply. The workaround did the trick!
