Rock 4 C+ Dietpi Support?

Hello Jappe
Unfortunately I could not completely execute the command
the following error always comes up

ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
_EOF_

Thank you for your help :sunglasses:

Did you select any specific device model during script execution? Theoretically you could overwrite the failing command with a default value to skip that step.

yes I chose the Rock Pi 4 image

how can i skip the command ?

you could enter true as alternative command.

after command

bash -c "$(curl -sSfL 'https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MichaIng/DietPi/master/.build/images/dietpi-installer')"

Debian GNU/Linux comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY, to the extent
permitted by applicable law.
-bash: /boot/dietpi/func/dietpi-globals: No such file or directory
[FAILED] DietPi-Login | Failed to load DietPi-Globals. Skipping DietPi login scripts...

and when i reboot the system
it doesn’t start anymore

There should be some more information between executing the command and error message. According to our script, we explicitly load dietpi-globals until DietPi system has been installed fully.

[ OK ] DietPi-PREP | Completed, disk can now be saved to .img for later use, or, reboot system to start first run of DietPi.
[ OK ] DietPi-PREP | To create an .img file, you can "poweroff" and run the following command from the host/external DietPi system:
	- bash -c "$(curl -sSfL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MichaIng/DietPi/master/.build/images/dietpi-imager)"

ok the installer finished. And after a reboot, the system is not coming back online?

Yes I can do the full install but the system won’t boot after install :frowning:
and I can’t run the desktop after installation
sorry for the late reply

Any desktop environment should be removed by the script and you would need to install it again with dietpi-software.
But since you are unable to boot, this is another problem.
YOu see no output at all with an attached display? Does the blue/red LED does something?

serial console access would be helpful to see where it stuck during boot. Maybe @MichaIng has some further ideas.

Ay, you won’t have joy for long with this legacy vendor image with Linux 4.4 :see_no_evil:. For a hint why it doesn’t boot, the whole dietpi-installer output would be helpful.

I checked your bug report about why serial-getty@.service enabling/disabling fails, and wow: the /lib/systemd/system/serial-getty@.service which is part of the systemd package has been removed from the image. So much about quality of vendor images :astonished:. Can be repaired by reinstalling systemd:

apt install --reinstall systemd

There is a lot of further mess, like enabled vendor services which are not installed anymore. I guess some overlay package was removed.

However, this is not responsible for failing boot. Since our current image does not work, the C Plus variant seems to be quite different. The kernel device tree has been added here: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/4129
But it seems to require a dedicated U-Boot build. Did you actually test to boot our ROCK PI 4 image from SD card? Probably it uses a different eMMC controller or so.

I highly recommend to not try with Radxa’s image, but use Armbian’s instead: https://dl.armbian.com/rockpi-4cplus/archive/Armbian_22.11.1_Rockpi-4cplus_bullseye_current_5.15.80_minimal.img.xz

When running dietpi-installer, choose “22 : Generic device” (end of list), otherwise the ROCK Pi 4B U-boot package will be installed. If this works, we can add a variant to the installer or new hardware model ID and generated dedicated official images for it.

many thanks for your help.
will try again tonight

I use EMMC memory

good evening
I have tried everything according to your instructions
unfortunately it doesn’t help if I

apt install --reinstall systemd

perform
the 2nd option with Armbian doesn’t really work either
I didn’t try it via the SD card because I want to start it via EMMC

I’m using Debian at the moment
I have the fewest problems there and was able to finish the system config

If a new version comes out in the near future, my Rock 4 C+, I’ll try again

or maybe you have an additional solution

Armbian and DietPi as as much Debian as the Radxa Debian image . What you use and what of course is expected to work is that vendor’s (Radxa’s) kernel and bootloader, which is the key difference.

The problem is that this kernel is ancient, and has hence issues and limitations on recent Debian versions, regarding container engines and modern kernel features like WireGuard, nftables/bpfilter and more, and a set of additional problems with Bookworm, the next Debian release this summer. This is also the reason why Radxa is providing Debian Buster (EOL since last summer) images only. And as vendors usually never update their kernels for one device, it has no future.

the 2nd option with Armbian doesn’t really work either

Can you go into detail why exactly did not work, where it failed, in case error messages? This is actually supposed to work reliable, as long as the Armbian image itself boots. And you did select “22: Generic device” in the installer? Selecting “ROCK Pi 4” would break it.

It seems to work fine on SD card, btw, so indeed only eMMC support is missing with the U-Boot build: Rock4C+ no-wifi-hardware-found

Hi audizo,

I also have a Rock Pi 4c+ but didn’t experience the issues that you posted.

I used the imager, got my 64gb sd card (i did order a eMMC but it didn’t arrive in time) I will use dd to transfer to the eMMC once it arrives.

Only real issue I had is that when it first booted the logon prompt did say hit enter, but no usb keyboards were detected. SSH worked fine but I did have a few issues with apt updates but was able to solve them.

Can I ask what power supply you are using, maybe it could be related to this?

Best regards.

Does onboard WiFi work in your case?

@all0gIc
Does HDMI work in your case?

I have recently bought this board and newbie when it comes to scripting.

I have managed to get the latest Armbian Bookwarm CLI build running ok.

I really want to try DietPi build. However, the RockPi 4 build from Downloads page does not boot at all and no heartbeat flashing blue light. Not getting anything displayed on either of HDMI ports.

I tried to execute DietPi’s create own build from Armbian console but at some stage fails to download packages with error something like unable to resolve dab.debian.org URL.

Reading through the forum, people have varying degree of success to get DietPi running on this 4C+ board. Not sure if I’m missing any trick here to get this running out of the box. Can someone provide step by step guide for a newbie?
