Restore from Backup via dietpi.txt... is that destructive at all?

My Orange Pi 5 Plus got a bad update a few months ago via apt and refused to boot via the NVME disk afterward. I currently have no video, it doesn’t request an IP address on the network, and the board’s LEDs don’t seem to indicate a running system in any capacity… It’s just basically dead.

Luckily, I have a fairly recent backup (on the same NVME disk :face_with_diagonal_mouth:) that I’m going to attempt to restore from via the dietpi.txt first run setup option here.

Before I do that, I have a couple of questions I was hoping to get clarified:

  1. Is a restore attempt “destructive” to the backed up data at all? Ex: Is it deleted or modified in any way? I’d assume not…
  2. In general terms, if a folder was not part of the backup but still lives on the disk, will it be gone after the restore?

Thanks!

Backup data will stay unchanged

should be deleted by rsync during restore
