Raspberry Pi Zero W - Wireless chip

Hi guys

I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on one of the new Raspberry Pi Zero W.

Any thoughts about how I can get the wireless working on it using DietPi? According to Raspberry Pi is uses the same wireless chip as the Raspberry Pi 3. I tried getting the latest version of DietPi, 145, but on boot it says it cannot find wlan0.

Is there a way of using the RPI3 driver on this board or will it require a future release of DietPi?

Hi Martin,

DietPi currently works on HW_MODEL index’s. So in this case the onboard WiFi chip on the RPi 3, is only enabled for the RPi 3 (device specific).

I’ll get a Zero W on order, and, implement the required changes to support onboard WiFi on the device:

Thanks Fourdee

Let me know if I can help out with testing in any way.

New ARMv6 image is live, with support for RPi Zero W (WiFi and BT): https://dietpi.com/downloads/images/

Can confirm that it’s working.

Thanks very much for the fast turn around time!

Are we sure aboout thhis, i just downloaded an image from the site and edited dietpi and changed the SSID / WPA-PSK and it refuses to connect, so im thinking something is missing then just that

My RPi-Zero works too.

Just updated the dietpi.txt file with my wireless info and password. Connected it to power, waited [for drivers to load I guess] then unplugged it and plugged it back in WiFi connected no problem.

I would suggest to the OP to try cycling the power a couple of times.
