So far so good on my end, though I was kind of surprised that Readarr is still on the software list seeing as it was retired last month

I recognized it while testing on Trixie and doing some general reviews. As long as it does still work, and we have no alternative, we’ll leave it in the list, I guess. Will probably remove it in 2026 with DietPi v10, when dropping Bullseye support and with it a bunch of software titles which cannot run on Bookworm (and newer) anymore. So DietPi v10.0 in January 2026 will most likely be a cleanup release, early spring cleaning .

Just updated the existing Dietpi to the beta branche. All went smooth. I only got a hick up because it couldn’t find /var/cache/apt/archives/partial directory. But this little hick up I had also on the regular branche and is probably caused by something I did. I have a Raspberry Pi 3B+ and use it 24/7 for flight radar monitoring.

Probably this solves it, removing that directory, so any next APT package install or upgrade will regenerate it with correct permissions etc:

/boot/dietpi/func/dietpi-set_software apt clean
apt update

Is the Trixie Upgrade done automatically with v9.16.x?

Nope, it would need to be triggered manually, similar as we did for bookworm

How do I trigger it? And it is safe?

depends what you call save. Nothing is “save” in IT and nobody can give a 100% guarantee. We try our best, but Trixie is just a couple of days old and further improvement will follow for sure.

Question is, what do you expect from Trixie? Are there urgent needs why you like to upgrade?

I think we address the most frequent and important issues of the Bookworm => Trixie upgrade in our script already, and systematic tests of all dietpi-software options should have found (and fixed) most incompatibilities as well. If you run software which we know does not work on Trixie (yet), the script will warn you, so you can abort in that case.

Right now if you installed Python applications using a lot modules installed as python3-* APT packages, you might run into issues when the script does a dietpi-software Python 3 reinstall, since recent pip does not handle modules installed via system packages gracefully anymore. But we know that issue, how to solve it individually, and can help quickly.

Only one question mark is when running PostgreSQL. We try to migrate v15 clusters to v17 automatically, and the APT packages themselves prevent the autoremoval of PostgreSQL v15 packages. But in one case, somehow they were uninstalled, so that neither start nor migration of the v15 clusters could work. I don’t know how that could happen, and did not get response from the affected user either. So if you use PostgreSQL, or the Synapse Matrix homeserver, create a backup of your cluster(s) at least. Installing the needed PostgreSQL 15 packages again on Trixie should be possible, but it includes manual DEB package downloads, since they are not part of the Trixie package suite.

No just asking…..I have right now a little bit of spare time so troubleshooting time  I know nothing is save in it or engineering….please don’t take my question for 100% real …. appreciated your work from all of you

I’ want to start a fresh rpi4 install with Trixie, will there be a pure Trixie download file instead of Bookworm → Trixie upgrade?

See here: Index of /downloads/images

We will switch to Trixie images on our download page soon. I just want to publish a blog post about it first, today or tomorrow.
