Has anyone tried to do an upgrade from Stretch to Buster without a reinstall? I was hoping to avoid the backup, re-flash then restore and then try to fix all the broken things.

EDIT:
I would recommend to go with a new buster image because all images have been recreated
I tried it but it broke on the way, so I had to re-image the SD eventually.
My suggestion is not to bother, take a backup of the settings, and flash the Buster image. Then restore settings either manually for the core settings, or with a copy from the backup for the programs.
there is no grantee that it will work, therefore a backup is highly recommended.
