think it’s better to re-upload a new fresh install of Dietpi 17.2 , re-run the script
after installing via dietpi-software alsa and tell us if it works

I look my dmesgand have also no sound card found but everything work as espected :wink:

Hey @Totof , I’ve tried steps again in the following order:

Yes, just headphone. By “hardware” I was referring to the functionality of my orangepi zero 2w + extension board PCB hardware.

First to sanity check the hardware:

  1. fresh install of official orangepi debian (version with 6.1 kernel)
  2. try sound with aplay -D hw:0,0 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Right.wav
  3. it works!
  4. No ~/.asoundrc file
  5. No /etc/asound.conf file

This confirms my orangepi zero 2w + extension board hardware is functional.

Then trying Dietpi again:

  1. fresh install of dietpi 9.17.2
  2. first initial boot
  3. reboot
  4. ran your device-tree overlay script
  5. inject overlay
  6. reboot
  7. install alsa via dietpi-software
  8. reboot
  9. edit /etc/asound.conf to look like your suggestion
  10. try to play sound: aplay -D hw:0,0 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Right.wav
    1. This failed: aplay: pcm_write:2178: write error: Input/output error
  11. Used alsamixer to unmute the 4 output mixers (Left DACL, Left DACR, Right DACL, Right DACR)
    1. Do you know what these abbreviations stand for? And why are there 4 instead of 2?
  12. Try play sound again, works!

I’m at a loss for why it worked this time around.

I’ve also noticed weird behavior in alsamixer for the lineout volume. If I try to change it in alsamixer it just goes to zero and then cannot increase it at all no matter if i exit and re-enter alsamixer.
Have you experience this?

DACR and DACL is the internal digital to analog converter of the H618

Perhaps in the script the line allwinner,audio-routing = "Line Out", "LINEOUT"; in the fragment above is not enough

Just to clarify, do you mean to try with the four amixer commands? And no additional changes to the dts fragment/script? (note the fragment you quoted has status = “disabled”).

I have tried the amixer commands in the original attempt (which ultimately didnt work) but I also tried it with the second attempt which works.

I curious if you have thoughts on the following?

Sorry for the mistake, for the status of the second segment, it must be “okay”, i recopied my special version on my laptop for my soundbox where i just enable i2s output

So try with the status " Okay" And the four commands

I don’t use the alsamixer to use level
I use software control under squeezelite and LMS
