New installation fails and crashes when trying to set up wifi on RPi0W

Creating a bug report/issue

I have searched the existing open and closed issues

Required Information

  • DietPi version: whatever is in the download page for RPi0W
  • SBC model | RPi0W
  • Power supply used | a 100W brick
  • SD card used | Sandisk

Additional Information (if applicable)

I flash a new SD card (tried two different ones).
I can either edit the config files before starting up the first time, or not, the results are the same.
Start up the pi and it complains that it has no network connection, so I try to setup wifi.
If I tell it to scan, it crashes and reboots almost immediately. If I put in the ssid and password and apply, it reboots, never connects and forgets the credentials. It does this on at least two different RPi0W’s. Have tried it at least 7 times.

EDIT: In the last half dozen attempts since I posted this, it asks if I want to enable WiFI. I say “yes”, it reboots, and then asks again if I would like to enable. It does not remember. I am completely at a loss what to even try, since everything is a fresh install, with practically nothing done.

are you using the dietpi-config option? Did you set your locale as in country code for the wifi?

Does it work with RPiOS? (To rule out a hardware failure)

Or check the power cable and power supply unit. Normally, a system does not simply crash when you select something.

Thanks for the feedback, folks.

Gahh! It was power supply. I bought this power supply specifically because it was supposed to avoid this problem. Super annoying.

Many thanks!
