Network Issues with Odroid M1S

Hello everyone,

I have a problem and hope you might be able to help me. I am using DietPi on an Odroid M1S. As a base image, I flashed Debian (from tobetter / Odroid Forum) and then used the DietPi installer. Basically, everything works fine. However, from time to time, I encounter the issue that my M1S becomes extremely slow sporadically. HTOP doesn’t show anything unusual, but accessing services like Pi-hole or HA becomes extremely slow and sometimes even hangs. When I unplug and replug my LAN cable, everything works fine again.

I understand that I won’t get complete support for this setup here, but maybe you have some tips on what I can check. Previously, I was using an Odroid C2 with DietPi and never had this issue.

Thank you very much!

you could check journalctl and dmesg. Do you checked memory usage within htop the moment it was slow?

Hello. Memory + CPU in HTOP look completely normal.
Even when the error occurs, I don’t see anything unusual in HTOP.

journalctl log is too long for posting, but here → JustPaste.it - Share Text & Images the Easy Way

looks like system has been rebooted at around 7pm this evening. Not that much within as it just contains data for 9 minutes (between 18:51:47 - 19:00:03)

I see one error, but probable not related to your issue

Dec 22 18:52:44 DietPi Home Assistant[1279]: FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: ‘ffmpeg’

You would need to install ffmpeg to fix an issue on HA

ok ill install ffmpeg right now. do you think thats the problem?

kindly regards

nop

Hello, I recently had this issue again. After unplugging and reconnecting the cable, the error disappeared. Here is my log. → JustPaste.it - Share Text & Images the Easy Way

@MichaIng

do you have an idea?

regards

Your journalctl log shows Home Assistant warnings before you unplugged the network adapter. Not sure whether it is related, but a reinstall to switch to Python 3.13 (Python 3.12 support has been deprecated) is not a bad idea anyway:

sudo dietpi-software reinstall 157

Else, can you unhide kernel (and probably userland) threads in htop? It can be done in the F12/Setup menu. Probably a kernel thread is inducing load. Also check the I/O screen there, or add I/O activity to the current one, to see whether this is it, and where it is coming from.

ok ive reinstall HA today but now i have same issue now

htop doesnt show anything all processes because its stuck while loading

last journal logs are:

FOUND: 21:24:43 DietPi kernel: TCP: request_sock_TCP: Possible SYN flooding on port 80. Sending cookies. Check SNMP counters.

So at least there is a PHP artisan process running, and Home Assistant seems to time out with some network request. The possible SYN flood happened earlier, so not sure whether it is related. Can you temporarily close external network ports/redirects for this device, to see whether this changes something?

Probably it makes sense to keep htop up earlier, to catch any thread which causes this 100% CPU usage, as the PHP artisan job is not that. And if external connections are not the issue, try to stop each service individually, to find the culprit.

Unfortunately, I haven’t found the error yet. I disabled Nextcloud and MQTT for a while, but unfortunately, the error still occurred, always after about 3 days. After that, I re-enabled MQTT and Nextcloud. Currently, the error has occurred again. Here are the latest entries from the journal log. Do you have any other ideas on how I can find the error? HTOP looks completely normal.

Ok, it’s not just every 3 days. It seems to happen at the same time. Yesterday, the error occurred at about the same time and now ive the issue again
