NanoPi NEO3 with DietPi Can I use a LCD2USB?

Hi, I have a NanoPi NEO3 running DietPi, and according to the Neo3 wiki, I should be able to use an LCD2USB with my NanoPi. I’d love to display my LAN IP and other useful information on it. The screen also comes with two buttons.

I followed the steps in chapter 5 of this LCD2USB GUIDE and installed LCD4linux. When plugged in, I can see “LCD2USB V1.09” displayed on my LCD screen.

However, at this step, the command doesn’t work, and here’s the error I get:

I also added the lines to my config file, but I don’t have a usbdev3.2 port. My knowledge is limited, so I’m stuck at the port section. On my Neo, I can see the LCD2USB connected to BUS 2 DEVICE 4, but I’m unsure what port this corresponds to or how to work around this.

Also I do not have any ttyUSB folder…

According to the usb id database ( http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids ) My device is listed.

Nobody ?

What about /dev/bus/usb/ ?

@Jappe yes I do have something

I set the link but nothing seem to work

Ok so my hint was wrong, the display gets possibly detected as a serial device. Can you check what else you have in /dev when the display is connected? Maybe something like /dev/ttyUSB or /dev/hidraw?!

If in doubt, disconnect the display, reconnect and run dmesg | grep -i usb

This is what I have in /dev ( no hidraw and no ttyUSB )

If i disconnect the display and reconnect it and run dmesg | grep -i usb this is what I have

root@SSEW:~# dmesg | grep -i usb

root@SSEW:~#

Looks like the system does not know what to do with this device. There is nothing created at /dev.
So idk, looks like the driver is not working? (but it shows the message in the displkay, so it is working?)
Also it’s pretty hard to get any documentation for lcd4linux (which should have build-in lcd2usb support), seems like the project is dead?
https://ssl.bulix.org/projects/lcd4linux/

Edit:
Also look at the date of the friendlyELEC page: July-5-2016. I guess the article is a bit outdated.
And then I look at the example from the unofficial wiki https://wiki.lcd4linux.tk/doku.php/lcd2usb

Display LCD2USB {
    Driver     'LCD2USB'
    Bus        '003'
    Device     '004'
    Contrast   250
    Brightness 200
    Icons      1
}

There is no port specification at all. ChatGPT (:sweat_smile:) also says, there is no port created, its a HID interface and should work directly via the driver.
So everything is a bit unclear. MAybe don’t stick to the outdated friendlyELEC instructions.

the last bit of code you post, where I should put it ?

Into your lcd4linux.conf, but you need to change the bus and device according to the output of lsusb

I don’t think it’s working either, so I think I’ll let it go. Thanks for your help, Jappe!
