I have been a mildly satisfied user of OMV since I got my XU4 but there have been too many things that require uninstall, reinstall from time to time for no apparent reason. This weekend, there were some patches that broke 2 applications for me, and that was when I started looking around. My idea of a home media server is pretty involved. I need mysql for kodi backend, i use plex for tablets for the kids, i use couchpotato, headphones, sickbeard, and sabnzbd as well as transmission for my other entertainment locating. I like subsonic for music streaming to phones when remote. I need nfs, and samba. Basically, a number of those things are available optimized for dietpi as is, and the rest will install from repo just fine.
I found I could gt the majority of the software I wanted integrated nicely into omv, but also found that things seemed to be troublesome, and you had to look at the device the right way with the the correct lunar position sometimes to get certain apps to start properly. I looked into dietpi last night, and dumped it on an sdcard for testing on a rpi2. In about 1/2 hour, I had the thing ready to take over for my xu4 (this was just a test to see if it would do all I wanted it to do) and things survive reboots, and start up the way they should…
I am officially migrating over to dietpi as a replacement for omv. I wanted to say thanks for the hard work you have done and put in as this project has definitely won me over.
