Why couldn’t I see any icons on Mate desktop, yet I was able to see desktop icons in Caja file explorer?

Since many programs don’t like to be run as root, the upcoming 7.2 which allows non-root user login to desktop probably can solve some issues.

Does v7.2 allow non root user login to desktop now?

Any special group the new user have to be in?

This should be working now.

Added a user with useradd -m -d /PATH/TO/FOLDER USERNAME command.

Set a password with passwd USERNAME

Logged in using RDP and it worked. Desktop icons showed up too. Nice!
