DietPi with Raspberry Pi 5 available?

Hello,

I want to use DietPi with a raspberry pi and a SSD.
I don’t want to use a microSD at all.
So I want to use an UGREEN SATA / USB adapter and a Kingston A400 SSD.
My plan is to flash DietPi with BalenaEtcher directly to the SSD with my windows PC and then just connect it to the USB-C port of the rpi.
Will this work?

I was planning to use a rpi5 for that but just heard that DietPi is not released for rpi5 yet. Is that correct?
Is there an ETA when it will be available? Or do you recommend to only use a rpi 4B with DietPi?

you can use the testing image. There are some rar case where we need to look into still. Sometimes RPi5 has challenges to boot and power button needs to be pressed. Looks like related to power consumption/settings. My demo RPi5 is running from NVMe

should work

Thank you - so in your opinion there is no need to go with the rpi4B?
I mean the pi 5 is much more powerful and costs about the same.
I guess the installation process is exactly the same with the testing image isn’t it?

Yes you can go with a RPI5. There are quite some device already DietPi-Survey statistics

If you consider that we only have statistical data from 15% of our users, it’s quite a high number of devices.

Hello,

The testing image works very well on the RPi5.

I initially used it on an SD card and then copied the
partitions to a SATA SSD that is operated via a
USB adapter (from Logilink).

The RPi5 booting from DietPiOS from SSD with USB adapter
worked straight away.

The testing image for the RPi 5 works so well now after a year that I wonder why it is still marked as “testing”.

For some users we have a challenge booting the system. It’s not yet clear what the reason is. At least they seems to be rar.
