Dietpi v9.0.2 & unbound dietpi.conf

i have a couple of dietpi/pihole rpi’s running for quite awhile (years). i kept them updated with dietpi-upgrade. now i need to update/reinstall them for bullseye. before i do that, i installed dietpi v9.0.2 on a new rpi along with pihole & unbound to test it out.

i noticed on the new dietpi install v9.0.2 in /etc/unbound/unbound.conf.d the file dietpi.conf. i don’t recall my “older” dietpi/pihole installs having that file though i could be mistaken. basically for the two older dietpi/pihole installs i had made use of this page, unbound - Pi-hole documentation , for creating a pihole/unbound .conf file.

is the new dietpi install v9.0.2 with the file /etc/unbound/unbound.conf.d/dietpi.conf, is this the new unbound/pihole config file we should use, versus the older one i had been using from the unbound - Pi-hole documentation page? granted, been out of the loop for a bit.

This is not new in DietPi v9, we have been using this configuration/setup for a long time. As you can see, the last changes to the Unbound configuration were made 3 years ago in DietPi v7.9. DietPi/.conf/dps_182 at master · MichaIng/DietPi · GitHub

Basically, there is no need to use the PiHole configuration guide for Unbound as we preconfigure everything to be ready to use ootb.

However, you are free to choose the PiHole configuration by creating an own config file and remove the DietPi file.

thanks @Joulinar , you pointed me in the right direction.

i think sometime in 2020 unbound was originally installed on those two rpi’s. lol
