Dietpi-update looks for timesyncd.service but i'm running chronyd, so update cancels

DietPi version: v9.20.1
Distro version: bookworm 0
Kernel version: Linux rpi-dietpi2 6.12.47+rpt-rpi-v8 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 1:6.12.47-1+rpt1~bookworm (2025-09-16) aarch64 GNU/Linux
Architecture: aarch64
SBC model: RPi 4 Model B
Power supply used: PoE
SD card used: SanDisk Corp

Steps to reproduce

sudo dietpi-update

Expected behaviour

dietpi-update would roll to completion from v9.20.1 to v10.0.1

Actual behaviour

it returns the error:
Command: systemctl start systemd-timesyncd

  • Exit code: 5
  • DietPi version: v9.20.1 (MichaIng/master) | HW_MODEL: 4 | HW_ARCH: 3 | DISTRO: 7
  • Error log:
Failed to start systemd-timesyncd.service: Unit systemd-timesyncd.service not found.

Extra details

understandable, this rpi is my local net timeserver, and i have chronyd running with a gps[u-blox 8], and have disabled & stopped systemd-timesyncd.service.

my question:

if i use the entry field from the dietpi-update" dialog: “Please enter/alter the command to be executed.” and enter
‘systemctl restart chronyd.service’ will that suffice or mess with reset of the script? thought i would ask first before i try it.

or if that won’t do it, can you point me to an edit(s) i can make to make the update continue?

tia

You would need to disable time sync within dietpi-config if you have a different/own time sync app running.
