DietPi for Cubietruck or Banana Pi ?

A DietPi image for the Cubietruck or Banana Pi is point one on my wishlist

Both are predestined for Server usage because of the integrated SATA interface

Someone agree ?

Hi perlian,

just my 2 Cent.

  • Cubietruck =>> Yes

  • Banana-Pi M3 =>> No, thanks

Will you start, contribute and support this project?
You are sincere invited to join in.

which project ?

DietPi generally or DietPi on Cubietruck ?

Hi perlian,

Hmm… a good question.

Have a Cubietruck and like it very much. Since I discover DietPi and play around with it, my Cubietruck settled dust more and more.
To get DietPi on Cubietruck to work, at least a coder / programmer guy must have or get one.
Cubietruck is now about 2 1/2 years old, it is and was not cheap ( ~ 100,- EUR).
How we will wangle this, if one the developer, e.g. Fourdee, rhkean, xenfomation, thinking about it, is can be worth to support this device?

DietPi in general? Please ever. There’s so many little thinks we can do to manage this, e.g. helping other user her in forum.

Unfortunately im not a programmer

But nevertheless im involved in other projects in the past

For example Seafile on ARM platforms like RPi Banana Pi or Cubietruck
I have adapted the seafile installation script for it.

I have 2 Cubietrucks at home and Its a good piece of hardware specially for using as a Homeserver

I would test any Dietpi image for these platforms when available

I cant understand why Orange Pi is suppoerted and Banana Pi (not M3) and Cubietruck not

In short:
We are unable to support devices, if we dont have that device for testing.
Unless we can obtain a dev sample board from the manufacture, the devices cost money. As there as so many, many, many SBC’s out there, we are limited on what funds we have, and what boards we can purchase with those funds.

Banana Pi are in the process of sending me a M2+, I will add support for that board in DietPi shortly after it arrives.

As for the Cubieboards , I’ll send them an email and see if they can send a dev board. Which one is the most common?

Sorry i forgot to think about that :frowning:

From my perspective the Cubietruck is the most common Board

We had a big community for Cubieboard/Truck here in germany until last year
but the manufacturer of Cubietrucks have gambled a lot of trust with great promises and no support at the end
Specially with working GPU drivers for Linux
Because of that reason the goal to use a Cubietruck as a Desktop replacement fails completely
But that is no problem for server using
The board itself is great

Hi,

hmm … for my personally Cubietruck, aka CB3 (CubieBoard3), because I have on.
But the device is out of 01/2014 (first AllWinner A20)

When I in your stead, better take a brand new CubieTruck Plus, aka Cubieboard5. More future for the device, but not on sale for the moment in Europe.

Exactly, and because of that, I not will spend my money for a Allwinner device as Cubieboard any more.
Awesome specifications, good build hardware, great promises and no support at the end …

Sorry, but wrong projection.
Why do not the users, who had buy a product, ask the manufacture to send a development sample at Fourdee, to give him the possibility for device and user support? A win-win situation for both side? I don’t understand this …

No mean to harm anybody, especially to perlian in this case.

  • Users want to have DietPi for hardware x, y or z.
  • Users wanted to have software a, b or c for a device running DietPi.
  • Users ask for help or support, if they get in trouble or problems.

In hard:
What does please users do?
Buy and Pay the needed hardware to do it?
Spend the time to get a image on work or integrate software or bug fixing?
Write e-mail and beg for hardware sponsor or software fixes? (mega mortifying)

Unfortunately a project like DietPi will not work like this.
Without contribution and donation - no more DietPi. Sorry, just my 2 Cent.

I personally own 4 different Raspberry Pi, Odroide C1+, Odroide C2, BeagleBone Black, Cubietruck, x LCD Displays, y different WiFi adapters, more then 15 micro sd-cards, and many more. And doubtless not, because I need them all for personally purpose.
Compared to Fourdee, it’s surely like a freshman.

Please don’t misunderstand this, we really wanted to help as much users as possible.
But, like all other users, we have a real live, a job, a family and kids and have to work for our money.
I personally know no one here, who have earn a single cent with DietPi, but several folks, who burn some loose cash.

Of course every user is sincere invited to join in.

OT:

… for what it’s worth, it was no good decision, but better we have to ask Fourdee.

This: https://www.forum-cubieboard.de/ or http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/board,27.0.html ?
Yes, since Igor Pecovnik make this own armbian, it is quite calm down.

Why do not the users, who had buy a product, ask the manufacture to send a development sample at Fourdee, to give him the possibility for device and user support? A win-win situation for both side? I don’t understand this …

This really would make my life a little easier lol

Here goes:

  • Odroid C1
  • Odroid C2 rev0.1 (dev sample)
  • Odroid C2 rev0.2 (ordered this before I knew I was getting dev sample, no harm in having two of these performance mammoths  )
  • Odroid XU4
  • RPi 3
  • RPi 3
  • RPi 2
  • RPi Zero
  • Rpi 1 (256mb)
  • Orange Pi PC (dev sample)

And all of those (bar XU4 {dietpi-cloudshell+nas+pihole} and RPi Zero{EmonPi}) are for sole testing and devolpment with DietPi. I mainly use the C2 for dev/testing with EMMC due to its sheer filesystem (and system) performance.

i have to clarify something

First time i heard about DietPi was last weekend.
So i am a newbie
I read the feature list and was very impressed
So i’`m very interested in it

I have SBC`s since first Raspberry come out in 2012
Actually i Own:

2 Banana Pi for testing various things
3 RPI1 as Security Camera
3 RPI 2 running OSMC (Kodi)
1 RPI3 for Testing GPIO applications
2 Cubietruck running as Seafile and Fileserver
1 Odroid XU4 waiting for useful operation

Its a fact that We all have to do that in our free time unfortunately
Its also a fact that most users dont wanna pay for anything
But it is like it is

Hobby not worth but makes fun most of the times

How many people working for the DietPi project actually ?

Nice list of SBC’s and good to see them being put to use .

The XU4 + Cloudshell makes a cracking NAS + stats display, using dietpi-cloudshell: https://dietpi.com/forum/t/dietpi-survey-information/32/1

Heres the current DietPi team: GitHub - Fourdee/DietPi: Lightweight justice for your single-board computer!

Hi,

Me to, I do this assignment quite recently since one or two weeks.
( … and not of my own free will  )

Yes! :imp:

No. Some of my device are:
“Wer kämpft kann verlieren, wer gar nicht kämpft, hat schon verloren.”
(“Who fights can lose, who does not fight has already lost.”)

“Leiden ist leichter als Handeln”
(“suffer is lighter than act”)

… and brings in this special case, unfortunately commitment as well.

… and Fourdee does this for more than two years simply alone! He is self-effacing too much.

We would be glad, you contribute something to the project “DietPi”. No matter in which way.
For example, helping here DietPi users, who have questions and problems, is a good way to start.
I personally will appreciate for this help.

no chances to see Dietpi on banana pi/pro?

I received only the BPi M2+ board from BPi. For the other Banana Pi variants, i’d need a physical board to make it possible :frowning:

You can help make this possible by either:

  • Spread the word about DietPi to the Banana Pi creators. Hopefully we can try to obtain a development sample board from them.
  • Make a donation to roughly cover the cost of the the device and shipping. I’ll then order one and implement the DietPi image for the device of your choosing.

I’ve sent an email to Lemaker asking a dev board, they are available to send they’re newer boards (Lemaker guitar & Hikey), I’ve replied and asked (kindly) again for banana pro, I hope they will understand

Thank you Artic, I really appreciate it.

okay, it’s done ;D

Legend!

Actually I comment in a two years old thread…

@Fourdee
If Someone donate you a CT, would you still start the support?

I love the CT as my MPD server and it would be really great to play with dietpi on it.

Greetings from Germany
