Creation of images

Hello,

I am trying to understand how these images are built, is there any kind of description about what sources are used or a list of components on each image?

I suspect the source for some dietpi images is a debian base install image and for some others Armbian or vendor provided images.

@MichaIng can explain it in quite some detail.

Basically we don’t use a base image that way. All our images are generated by GitHub actions as boostraped images. Depending on SBC, different kernel / firmware is used. List of components is nearly same on all SBC.

• It calls this script, which can be also done on any other recent Debian or Ubuntu system: DietPi/.build/images/dietpi-build at 0fdd82319ff275b84f690addcfa820bda4edec4b · MichaIng/DietPi · GitHub
• It debootstraps (well, in the meantime we use mmdebstrap which has some benefits) a Debian from scratch, hence no base-/pre-image is used, starts it as container and calls dietpi-installer within.
• It finally calls dietpi-imager to create and upload the final image archive.
