Is it possible to use version 7.9.1 instead of 7.9.0 of LMS in DietPi? (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.9)
There is a new Spotify implementation (Spotty) and it prefers 7.9.1.
I have to say that Spotty is running perfect on 7.9.0 (only problem seeking with a track) - so maybe ignore this request 
I like to reopen this request. In LMS 7.9.1 are a lot of improvements like ‘Don’t stop the Music’ which continues the music after a playlist is done (it searches in local music database or Spotify for the same genre) and 7.9.1 is better compatible with Spotty (new Spotify client, old Spotify client doesn’t work anymore).

Can you wget download and then use dpkg -i logitechmediaserver_7.9.1~1505480690_arm.deb to install over the older version?

Hey Warhawk, thanks for your reply. I just tried out your suggested commands (Odroid C2 / Dietpi 1.56), now LMS is dead. Download & installation went okay but LMS isn´t starting any more - I´ve rebooted several times to make sure?
Your question about “apt-get” I cannot really answer since I do not understand what you´re asking for actually, I am sorry.
Might have to use the dietpi-software to uninstall and re-install…
some of the apt-get stuff and or side install doesn’t work with the scripting (from what I understand)
due to the dietpi-software running scripts once it installs to make sure it’s up and running…sorry for leading you astray and crashing your service
Please don´t worry I got the old version up and running again quite easily. But what happened basically justifies the existence of this thread, don´t you think? Right now it´s just not that easy to update LMS - at least not on the Odroid C2. Not sure if the same goes for other SBCs, too?
Spotty is now compatible with older versions:
v1.9.5 is on its way to you. It should fix the compatibility with older LMS versions.
If you follow the instructions here (installing 7.9.1): Debian Package - SqueezeboxWiki you receive the latest version and also new updates. You should first remove the old version (I think)

sorry, the officialy given commands do not work out for me. I first uninstalled the LMS provided by DietPi and then just copied the commands from slimdevices.com - LMS doesn´t even install. Maybe I should head over to the slimdevices forums… perhaps they can help. Thanks for your efforts anyways!

Also at the moment Odroid C2 doesn´t meet the requierements since it´s using a different perl version?
Any short feedback whether a renewal of LMS implementation in Dietpi is at least somehwere on the agenda would be great and very much appreciated!

Seriously, searching the given list of issues - thanks for the link! -I didn´t find anything concerning the outdated implementation of LMS for the Odroid C2… so I assume it´s not “on the agenda”.
Since dietpi just experienced a major overhaul (thanks a lot for that!) I am wondering if the implementation of LMS will be updated soon, too? It´s still the old version (01/2016) without working transcoding…

Sorry, ging nicht anders. Man kann nicht an 50 Baustellen auf einmal arbeiten. Da kommt nur Mist bei raus.
DietPi v6 war ein tiefgreifender Eingriff unter der Haube. Viele Dinge laufen jetzt völlig anders und gleichzeitig wurde auf Debian Stretch geschwenkt. Deshalb ist auch keine “rolling update” möglich. Ja, ich weiß, nicht für uns Odroid Nutzer, aber dazu später mehr.
Wir sind momentan in der Startphase, da werden hin und wieder neue Probleme zu Tage treten.
Außerdem sind genau in dieser Phase andere Tiefschläge hinzugekommen, die viel Zeit, Kräfte und Aufmerksamkeit kosten.
Daher glaube ich nicht, dass es im Moment Sinn macht oder Zeit vorhanden ist, die LMS Sache anzugehen.
Die Änderungen dafür sind wohl tiefgreifender. Wenn es so einfach wäre, hättest du es mit Hilfe der Beschreibungen, sicher selbst hinbekommen.
Außerdem wird es extrem aufwendig, extra für Odroids mit Jessie und Kernel 3.x eine Sonderlösung einzubauen.
Leider muss man bei so einer Breite an unterschiedlichen Hard- u. Softwareunterstützung immer Wechsel- u. Nebenwirkungen im Auge behalten. Da gibt es immer Leute, die machen mit Ihrer Hardware, noch völlig andere Dinge.
Bei Dingen, die so stark verknüpft sind mit Kernel, Modulen oder binären Blobs (closed Source by Harware Manufactor),
sind wir eindeutig auf Dritte angewiesen. Das ist und war auch nie die Kernkompetenz von DietPi.
Für die Odroids kommt die Basis, Distribution, Kern und Module von meverick der sie auch pflegt (im Rahmen seiner Möglichkeiten).
Die Sourcen dafür stammen von Hardkernel, die auch die Blobs von den Hersteller wie Amlogic oder Mali bereitstellen.
Da geht es aber im Moment nicht so recht voran. Da keine neuen Quellen oder Blobs bereitgestellt werden (Hersteller),
läuft der C2 auch immer noch auf Kernel 3.x.
Die Stretch Fortentwicklung schreitet auch nicht so recht voran, daher auch noch Debian Jessie im Moment.
Würde man jetzt auf Stretch schwenken, was man machen kann, verliert man z.B. Kodi Unterstützung und große Teile des GPU / VPU Supports.
Hardkernel fokussiert sich zur Zeit auch auf andere Dinge, wie XU4-HC1 Fortentwicklung und den neuen Odroid N1.
Also unser C2 sehe ich eher in der Sackgasse im Moment.
Bitte nicht falsch verstehen, die Hardware ist prima und leistungsfähig, eines der besten, schnellsten Boards, die ich besitze.
Zur Zeit mangelt es halt nur an der Fortentwicklung des vorhandenen.
Dürfte das gleiche Problem sein, wie bei DietPi.
Zu viele offene Baustellen, Wünsche und Ziele, zu wenig Unterstützung, zu wenig helfende Hände.
Hilft dir zwar alles nichts bei deinem Wunsch oder Problem weiter, aber vielleicht erleichtert es das Erfassen der Zusammenhänge etwas.
Viele Dinge hätte ich auch gerne anders, manches können wir gemeinsam ändern, anderes müssen wir auch einfach akzeptieren.
