I’m very happy with Raspberry, but I would test a different board with emmc.
What is the cheapest solution for play with it?

Onboard eMMC or eMMC socket?
From what I see, among our supported SBCs, NanoPi NEO Air is the cheapest with fixed 8 GiB onboard eMMC: https://www.friendlyarm.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69&product_id=151
There was the NEO2 Black edition with eMMC socket, but I cannot find it for sale anymore. Probably they stopped produced in favour of the new NEO3, although it does not have eMMC support.
