Can't start Kodi on Pi 5

  • Architecture | arm64

  • SBC model | RPi 5 Model B (aarch64)

  • Power supply used | RPi5 Original 27W Power supply

  • SD card used | No SD Card. I’m using USB-Boot (Samsung EVO 870 2TB SSD).

Additional Information (if applicable)

  • Software title | Kodi
  • Was the software title installed freshly or updated/migrated? Fresh
  • Can this issue be replicated on a fresh installation of DietPi? Haven’t tried.

Steps to reproduce

  1. run command: startkodi

Expected behaviour

  • Kodi should start and show on the screen.

Actual behaviour

  • Kodi won’t start and show on the screen. I get the following message:
[W][01187.003989] pw.conf | [conf.c: 939 try_load_conf()] can't load config client.conf: No such file or directory
[E][01187.004055] pw.conf | [conf.c: 963 pw_conf_load_conf_for_context()] can't load default config client.conf: No such file or directory
ERROR: Unable to create GUI. Exiting

Extra details

  • I’m running the following testing image: DietPi_RPi5-ARMv8-Bookworm.img.xz
  • I’m using the Argon One v3 Case with 2 full size HDMI-ports.
  • Kodi version: Kodi Media Center 20.5 (20.5.0) Git:20240501-8c8d7afa26 (installed from dietpi-software).

can you share the whole error log that should have been created by xserver?

Hi! /var/log/Xorg.0.log is empty. Running the command startkodi with the error message in my first post doesn’t seem to generate any log entry for xserver.

Ok I will test on my demo system

sorry I was wrong with the xserver, it’s not used for Kodi.

Anyway, to start Kodi from CLI, use following command

startkodi -standalone

Thank you! That worked. I still get an error message in the console after typing the command “startkodi -standalone”, however Kodi launches successfully :smiley:
