  • Power supply used | 5,1V 5A (official PSU)

  • SD card used | KingSpec 128GB M.2 2242 NVMe SSD (+Geekworm X1001)

Steps to reproduce

  1. Lately when I start to reboot my RPi I often run into the issue that it won’t boot up and giving me 8 short Green flashing Lights.
I figured that this just happens when I restarr “too quickly” for example after Starring Emulationstation and If I immediately start after that I run into that issue but also If I reboot from the Terminal. This doesnt Happen in First startup and Just happens every other time.

Expected behaviour

  • simple reboot

Actual behaviour

  • 8 short green flashes and Pi not booting

Extra details

  • I recently changed from the Geekworm X1003 Top HAT to the X1001 and while the X1003 was connected via PCIe and GPIO the X1001 is connected just via PCIe. Previously I didnt had that issue but I don’t know whether this is connected.
  • It happened the first time after trying to Update skyscraper (opt package Emulationstation) and then reboot.

Did you go through the wiki and compatibility list? X1001 - Geekworm Wiki

And how to enable NMVe on RPi 5: NVMe SSD boot with the Raspberry Pi 5 - Geekworm Wiki

The config.txt changes can be done as well prior to first boot, as it is located on the FAT partition, available after flashing the image.

If there is no output on HDMI, the serial console accessible via UART debug port should show what is going on. But you need an adapter for that, to access it from an external system.

Thanks for the response.

Yes I checked for compatibility and enabled the NVMe properly, it did work beforehand.
In fact it works pretty well currently as well aside from that “reboot”-problem.
I also have HDMI output if it boots. Just if it doesn’t boot there obv. is no picture/signal and you can’t even remotely connect to the device via ssh as it isn’t yet running at that point.
