5 minute external server security advice

Hi all!

First of all, thank you to the community and to the devs for all your hard work and help in the forums, etc. I’ve really enjoyed using DietPi, and I’ve learned a lot by lurking forums, and testing things on my RPi. I’m not a professional in any IT field, I looked at studying network engineering but went down another path.

Having said that, I know enough to know that when I set up any type of server, there’s obvious security issues, and I know very little about industry best practices. I’ve often seen various “5 minute Linux server security hardening” articles, but good advice is…

Just to be clear, I don’t expect anyone to walk me through ‘things you have to do’. Just following along without actually understanding anything of what you’re doing is not a good idea.

However, if the community have some recommendations for literature, easy access courses or other learning materials that help to build an understanding of some basic server security best practices, that would be much appreciated.

Thank you again, and all the best.
