Updating to python 3.8+

Post by Sigiz »

The python version shipped by dietpi-software is python 3.7.. I would like to have python 3.8 or above however...

Is this possible? I am running dietpi on my rpi 3b+

Code: Select all

       _,met$$$$$gg. dietpi@DietPi
    ,g$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$P. -------------
  ,g$$P" """Y$$.". OS: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) aarch64

`d$$' ,$P"' . $$$ Uptime: 1 day, 3 hours, 49 mins

 $$: $$. - ,d$$' Shell: bash 5.0.3
 $$; Y$b._ _,d$P' Terminal: /dev/pts/0

   `Y$$.
     `$$b.
       `Y$$b.
          `"Y$b._

Hi,

DietPi will install Debian apt package python3-dev from official Debian repository. Latest version is 3.7 https://packages.debian.org/buster/python3-dev

I guess you would need to compile it yourself to get a higher version. Maybe this guide could help https://linuxize.com/post/how-to-instal ... debian-10/
Pls let us know if a solution is working. This could help others if they hit by similar situation. Your DietPi Team

Thanks for your reply! Yeah I had to go down the route of compiling it myself.. I will let this be there for anyone else.
