[SOLVED] Ethernet not working anymore after power failure

Hi there,

I have a little problem with my XU4-DietPi-Server. After we had a power failure in our street, the ethernet of my DietPi isn't working anymore.

To be specific: I have to ifconfig eth1 down and then ifconfig eth1 up to bring the ethernet up again.
After that I have to call dietpi-config to check the ethernet connection. The Static IP of the DietPi is still there also the Netmask and Gateway, but I have to re-enter the data and check the connection within dietpi-config to establish a working connection.

After that everything is working fine again and I can access the DietPi via SSH or Webmin.

So it isn't a hardware problem.

Any hint on that? How to bring up the connection without the turnaround because it should be a headless server :D again.

Hi Mike,

I think the issue may be related to your interfaces file.

After rebooting, check the IP address on the system with ifconfig, then attempt SSH. If this works, you'll need to set your static IP again by using dietpi-config, then enable static and select copy current to static, select save and reboot system to test.

If the problem persists after reboot, please upload your /etc/network/interfaces file again.

thx again for your help.

I was able to reconfigure my ethernet connection so that everything (also DNS) is working again.

I'm not sure what happened but the Dietpi.txt-file in /dietpi was lacking the static IP. Thanks to your hint I had a look into that file, reconfigured it, rebooted and it is working again.

Maybe the file was corrupted due to the power failure?

Yep possible.
If the SD/EMMC was writing to disk at the time of the power cut, that could cause damage to multiple files and the filesystem, so keep an eye out for any further issues that may occur due to that.

Ideally, if you have a power cut, i'd always recommend writing the image and starting fresh, just to make sure no filesystem corruptions.
