Opioid xu4 swap getting full daily

Post by Doctorbeefy »

Is there a way I can see what is filling up my swap and why? I check memory and it looks fine and maybe 45% but swap is being used.

Hi,

a litte bit of Google search would bring the following https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-whi ... sing-swap/

Basically you can use smem or a bash loop

Code: Select all

for file in /proc/*/status ; do awk '/VmSwap|Name/{printf $2 " " $3}END{ print ""}' $file; done | sort -k 2 -n -r
Pls let us know if a solution is working. This could help others if they hit by similar situation. Your DietPi Team

Interesting tool. However, note that the content in swap has been pushed there because other content has been created in memory. So you would need to watch out for processes which temporarily use a large amount or memory while the ones in swap are likely rarely used ones.

E.g. Plex nowadays writes to /tmp to transcode video intros. That may temporarily use a larger portion. I'm not sure whether these are cached but navigating through your content and watching some intros while having htop opened might reveal if/how much memory that consumes.
