DietPi on Raspberry Pi 4?

Post by Kool »

Hello everybody,,

As the title says, is it possible to install DietPi on the RaspberryPi 4?

Having trouble accessing it over SSH.

Not quite, my understanding is you can put Debian buster on it and then use the dev version of the dietpi prep script to build up a system, but that official dietpi for rpi4 images are still a bit beta and require a new bootloader.

Hi,

many thanks for your message. There is nothingt special on RPi4. DietPi is supporting it quite a while. According DietPi statistics, RPi4B is the most used device (32bit). As well the 64bit BETA version is used by a couple of people already. https://dietpi.com/survey/

Code: Select all

RPi 4 Model B (armv7l)	4082	20%
RPi 4 Model B (aarch64)	387	1%
This include users only, who opt-in to send survey data. Probably there are more RPi4B users out.

You can use the standard DietPi for RPi image. There is no need to perform a transformation from plain Raspbian OS to DietPi. Personally I'm using a RPi4B since month.

Code: Select all

 ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────
 DietPi v6.32.2 : 22:11 - Wed 09/09/20
 ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────
 - Device model : RPi 4 Model B (armv7l)
 - Uptime : up 6 days, 23 hours, 51 minutes
 - CPU temp : 39'C : 102'F (Cool runnings)
 - LAN IP : 192.168.0.11 (eth0)
 - Info Text : !!! PRODUCTION SYSTEM !!!

basically it's a simple case with fan. Similar I'm using for my RPi3B+ as well.

Not sure if it's available on your region, but let me link the German Amazon website

I am using this fanless. Temperatures from 39-45°C depending on the ambient temperature.

Same. The Flirc case is an excellent fanless solution. My idle temps are high 30s/low 40s (depending on ambient) and my sustained load is high 40s mid to low 50s (again depending on ambient).

I leave it on constantly, so not having to worry about dust from the moving air is a highly underrated convenience.

Mine is wan router with OpenWrt, so a bit of an overkill for both CPU and RAM. But I am considering containers and feel that it is ready for any future bandwidth upgrades to symmetric gigabit speeds.
