Kivy on Buster or Stretch (pi zero)

Post by dj_jello »

Has anyone tried to run kivy on any recent version of DietPi?

I have followed instructions for installing kivy for generic linux, and also raspbian installation. They haven't updated their instructions for Buster, but I found some instructions within an issue ticket on github for the pi 3b+ and 4. All have the same issue, failed to find valuable window provider.

Here's what it looks like on the newest Buster, 6.26.3, the newest kivy, python 3.7.3, and all the dependencies required for raspbian buster desktop as per https://github.com/kivy/kivy/issues/6413:

Code: Select all

[INFO ] [Image ] Providers: img_tex, img_dds, img_sdl2, img_pil, img_gif (img_ffpyplayer ignored)
[INFO ] [Text ] Provider: sdl2
[INFO ] [Window ] Provider: sdl2(['window_egl_rpi'] ignored)
error: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR not set in the environment.
[CRITICAL] [Window ] Unable to find any valuable Window provider. Please enable debug logging (e.g. add -d if running from the command line, or change the log level in the config) and re-run your app to identify potential causes

A new community image for ZeroPi is up for testing: https://github.com/MichaIng/DietPi/issues/3221
