ZeroTier

Post by cocoflan »

Maby something to place in the software list with new version, works nice on my sbc systems with dietpi, and much faster than remot3it.

I have been using it for the past couple of months with my NanoPi NEO2 and NEO4, it's been a joy to use and gets my vote to be added to the DietPi software lineup.

I still did not get 100% what it is: A VPN with a custom network protocol on top?

for what i understand, yes it is, adding a friendly user interface.
from the web site wrote: It's a distributed network hypervisor built atop a cryptographically secure global peer to peer network. It provides advanced network virtualization and management capabilities on par with an enterprise SDN switch, but across both local and wide area networks and connecting almost any kind of app or device.

or to put it another way ...
A VPN is a link between two networks, traffic between the two networks is relayed through the VPN server.
ZeroTier is a software defined network, traffic within the network is end to end encrypted over direct connections between nodes (no relaying through a central server).
