I did apt-get update/upgrade this morning and linux-image-3.10.105+ was on the list so I installed. The system then wouldn't boot, no flashing blue LED. I planned to restore from a backup and found my 3 month old 32GB eMMC had failed. I rebuilt the system on an SD card and restored from backup. On doing the upgrade, again the system wouldn't boot. I have rebuilt the system again and put this package on hold and all working fine again.
Why would this update break the system?
John
PS running kernel 4.9

Yep, probably best to do the restore again, then hold the packages above to prevent 3.x overwriting 4.9.
If you want to fix no boot going from 4.9 > 3.x, copy the exynos5422-odroidxu3.dtb to exynos5422-odroidxu4.dtb in /boot.
