how is it possible to update kodi do the tatest version?

Raspbian - Up-to-date versions (only up to version 15.2) of Kodi are now on the default Raspbian repositories.
Version 16.1 is at the moment only available in Raspbian testing
If you specifically want Kodi 17, it might be worth checking dedicated Kodi images for the versions they offer, such as OSMC and OpenELEC.
